Head of Infrastructure & Energy
Ben is our Head of Infrastructure & Energy. With over 20 years’ experience, Ben is known for his expertise in energy and infrastructure projects, in particular net zero and low carbon projects. This includes renewable energy and energy storage, power purchase and heat supply agreements, biogas, biofuels and energy from waste.
Passionate about helping clients to achieve their objectives and commercial in his outlook, Ben finds it really rewarding to see a project he’s worked on from procurement through to financial close achieve full operation.
To make this happen, Ben notes that it’s important to have a good commercial understanding of what makes a successful energy project and a willingness to both challenge and be challenged.
“An energy project will invariably face some unforeseen setback on the way to delivery. But lawyers can play an important role in helping clients anticipate those challenges, and to respond positively and find commercial solutions to obstacles when they arise”.
Ben describes his working style as collegiate and proactive, and says that this is a reflection of life at Walker Morris, where, he says, “we care about building lasting relationships with our clients based on trust, teamwork and adding value to their business. How we work with our colleagues within the firm reflects how we work with our clients”.
Ben was drawn to this type of work during his time as a trainee solicitor when, he says, “I was attracted to the challenge of complex projects and the role of the projects lawyer in delivering facilities that make a positive different to people, communities and the environment”.
