Real Estate and Housing Litigation
Martin has over 20 years of experience advising in relation to all aspects of commercial property disputes. Leading the Real Estate and Housing Litigation Team since 2016, he is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and acts for a wide variety of clients in relation to both mainstream disputes and niche areas such as rights to light, mines and minerals and property insurance.
He helps clients avoid real estate disputes or successfully resolve them and leads a substantial team dealing with complex litigation as well as bespoke individual matters and portfolio management work.
As well as having significant trial experience, Martin is experienced in the full range of dispute resolution helping to meet clients’ objectives with alternative means of resolving real estate disputes, including mediation and has significant arbitration and expert determination experience.
When it comes to managing client expectations, Martin likes to be “upfront” with his advice. He sees problem solving as a key component of any litigator and enjoys the challenge of helping clients achieve their objectives. He says “I like the challenge of working with clients to reach a positive commercial outcome to disputes.”
Martin prides himself on understanding real estate and providing business-oriented solutions and he also plays a significant advisory role for clients in relation to both high value and complex transactional work.
Martin enjoyed studying property at university and undertook a commercial property seat during his training contract, but wanted more variety than the process driven work he was encountering, so property litigation was a good compromise.
With considerable experience in contentious property matters in relation to large scale disputes and general property management work, Martin has built up a substantial practice at Walker Morris since joining on qualification.
